Xpovio®, a new medication to treat myeloma, is a "nuclear export inhibitor," the first compound in this new drug class. Nuclear export inhibitors prevent cancer cells from expelling special genes in the cell nucleus (called tumor suppressor proteins) which helps protect the cell from cancer.
